Clipped pencil signature of the English actor whose TV series debuted on the
eve of World War II.
Signature: "Charles Heslop" in pencil, 3½x1¼ irregularly trimmed slip.
A veteran of English stages and music halls, Charles Heslop (1883-1966)
became one of television's earliest performers in 1937. He launched his own
comedy series in the role of a talkative barber, Percy Ponsonby in March
1939. Unfortunately, World War II caused the series' cancellation six months
later. Heslop appeared in film roles for from the early 1930s to early 1960s,
featured prominently in The Peterville Diamond and Flying Fortress
(both 1962), and appearing in Disney's production of The Prince and the
Pauper (1962). Closely cropped at top edge. Fine
condition.
