Partly Printed Stock Certificate signed on a slip of paper affixed to the attached stub: "Charles I duPont", 1p, 12x7½ overall, certificate 9¼x7½. Dover, Delaware, 1866 September 7. Certificate No. 1322. In full: "This Certifies, That Ann R. duPont Trustee of Mary T. (sic) Ridgely is entitled to Ten Shares in the Capital Stock of The Delaware Rail Road Company, on which Twenty-Five Dollars per share have been paid. Transferable only at the Office of the said Company by the said Ann R. duPont trustee of Mary T. (sic) Ridgely or his her attorney." Co-signed: "James F. Allee" as Treasurer. A 2¾x1¾ partly printed receipt has been affixed to the lower portion of stub glued to certificate at left. In full: "Received Sepr the 7th 1866 of James F. Allee, Certificate No. 1322 for Ten shares of the capital stock of the Del. R.R. Col., on which $25 have been paid. Transferred by M.W. Locke." This is signed: "Charles I. duPont". CHARLES I. duPONT (1797-1869) signed this stock receipt as administrator of the Mary H. Ridgely estate. Mrs. ANN RIDGELY duPONT (1815-1898) was Charles' wife. The Ridgely family had its roots in Dover, Delaware. The Delaware Railroad dates back to 1838 as a link between Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore. Dark glue stains where stub was attached to certificate show through to signature. Certificate shows folds and is lightly creased.
