Autograph Sentiment Signed: Translated from French: “Hello to the people of
Chicago/goodbye/Ch: Lefranc Jr.”. Dated “22 [illegible] 1870” 3x5 index card signed in brown
ink. Charles Lefranc Jr. was a famous vintner known for his partnership with Paul Masson in
the late 1800s. Lefranc created the Maison Lefranc winery with Masson as one of his top
employees. The winery was later renamed the Lefranc Masson Wine Co. when Masson
married Lefranc's daughter in 1888. They produced champagne in the Almaden Valley.
Lefranc passed away ca. 1887, but his name continues to live on in wines and
champagnes produced in California.
