Christmas card signed "Ann and Mac" in green ink.B/w, 4 pages, 4x5¼, 1 sheet folded, front and verso, printed on cardstock. Engraved inside in red ink: "Seasons Greetings/and Our Very Best Wishes/for 1965/Representative and Mrs. Charles McC. Mathias, Jr.". "Ann" is probably Mathias' wife Ann Bradford. A maverick Republican who was known for not voting a straight Party line, Mathias (1922-2010) represented Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives (1961-1969) and U.S. Senate (1969-1987). He had previously served in the Maryland House of Delegates (1959-1960). An attorney and veteran of World War II, Mathias had also been Assistant Attorney General of Maryland (1953-1954) and City Attorney of Frederick, Maryland (1954-1959). Mathias is best known for his contribution to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, introducing legislation (along with Senator John W. Warner of Virginia) in 1979 to authorize a site of national parkland for the Memorial. Lightly creased. Light dent in bottom left corner. Lightly rounded corners with lightly creased top left corner. Adhesive residue on verso (does not show-through). Otherwise in fine condition.
