Typed Letter signed as US Representative (1971), responding to a request for a summer internship
Typed Letter signed: "Charles Thone" as US Representative, 1 page, 7x9. Washington, D.C., 1971 April 27. On his own Congressional letterhead to Doug Voegler, Lincoln, Nebraska. In full: "Please forgive my tardy reply to your letter inquiring about the possibility of summer employment. I've just returned from the Easter recess, and am trying to get caught up. Doug, I would very much like to be in a position to offer you a summer internship, but my allotment for this summer is filled. However, I would be most happy to consider you for next summer. I would suggest that you contact me early next year, and I'm sure we can work something out. Many thanks for writing, and I regret that there is nothing to offer for this summer. Most cordial regards, and thanks again for your fine support. Sincerely". Republican Charles Thone, previously the Legislative Assistant to Senator Roman Hruska, served four terms in the US House of Represenatatives (1971-1979). He was Governor of Nebraska (1979-1983), returning to private law practice after losing a bid for re-election. While in Congress, Thone served on the House Select Committee on Assassinations, which renewed the inquiry into the deaths of President Kennedy and Martin Luther King. Lightly creased. Normal mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
