Actor Charles Tingwell wrote this letter from Abbotsford, Victoria, Australia in 1973. In it, he thanks the recipient for "the very encouraging things you said" in his letter - and, incidentally, how he knew that Tingwell would be on the TV series Homicide.
Autograph letter signed "Charles Tingwell" in blue ink. 1 page, 8x9¾, thin paper. Written at "Crawford Production [illegible], Ltd." , Abbotsford, Victoria, Australia, Dec. 18, 1973. In full: "Dear Albert, Many many thanks for your kind letter received earlier this year. Thank you also for the very encouraging things you said. I am interested to know where you learned that I was doing the 'Homicide' series and where you were able to get the address of the production company. We were all pleased and flattered by your letter. Thank you again for your letter and very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year. Yours sincerely,". Australian actor Tingwell (1923-2009) flew reconnaissance missions in Hurricanes and Spitfires during World War II before his first movie role, an uncredited on in 1946's Smithy. In all, Tingwell had acting credits in over 140 movies and TV shows between 1946 and 2009, including recurring or repeat roles in Emergency-Ward 10 (1958-1960), Beware of the Dog (1964), An Enemy of the State (1965), Thunderbirds (1966), Captain Scarlet and the Mysterions (1967-1968), A Man of Our Times (1968), Catweazle (1969-1970), Homicide (1973-1977), Prisoner (1985-1986), Somthing in the Air (2001-2002) and Neighbours (1993-2003). Some of his movies included The Desert Rats (1953), Breaker Morant (1980), A Cry in the Dark (1988), The Castle (1997) and Jindabyne (2007). One of his best known roles was as Gramps in the segment Charlie The Wonder Dog on The Late Show (1993). He was also Inspector Craddock in four of Margaret Rutherford's Miss Marple movies: Murder She Said (1962), Murder at the Gallop (1963), Murder Ahoy (1964) and Murder Most Foul (1964). Lightly toned, soiled and creased. Tape residue in top left corner (does not touch signature). Folded in half horizontally and twice vertically and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
