CHARLIE CHAPLIN
Signed black and white Essanay postcard of Charlie Chaplin's Little Tramp, from the 1915 film The Tramp, sitting in an easy chair and signed with Chaplin's "Best Wishes". Framed to 16x26 in Gallery of History style in a brown frame and green fabric matte.
Postcard Photograph signed: "Best Wishes/Charlie Chaplin". B/w, 3½x5½. Chaplin (1889-1977, born Charles Spencer Chaplin in London, United Kingdom) signed this circa 1915 Essanay postcard featuring him as "The Little Tramp", from the film The Tramp, which was released that year by Essanay Films. He had joined that studio on January 2, 1915 but would only remain there until February 26, 1916, when he signed with Mutual. Chaplin made his film debut the year before The Tramp; his second film that year, Kid Auto Races at Venice, introduced "The Little Tramp". Only five years later, he was one of the founders of United Artists (1919), where Chaplin directed, wrote, composed, produced and acted in many of his films. The Gold Rush (1928) was one of his two films which were recognized as true art; the other was Modern Times (1936), for which he also produced the music. Chaplin was awarded two special Oscars, in 1929 and 1972, for his contributions to the film industry. Adequate contrast. Lightly soiled at blank margins. Overall, fine condition. Framed in Gallery of History style: 16x26.
