CHARLOTTE DIETERLE
A meal ticket from the Paramount Continental Cafe signed by the actress and wife to German director William Dieterle
Meal ticket signed: "Charlotte Dieterle", in blue ink, 3½x5½. Dated circa 1949 in unknown hand. Mel ticket 77263 for a total of $2.20. Charlotte Hagenbruch (1896-1968), better known as the wife to William Dieterle, was an actress and screenwriter. Beginning with small time theatre, Hagenbruch appeared in local German productions of Faust, The Living Corpse, and Hamlet. She then began to appear in silent films, meeting actor/director Dieterle during this time and marrying him shortly after in 1921. Although she went on to appear in several films directed by him, by the late 1920's she devoted herself almost entirely to helping promote his career, and instead worked in Hollywood as a manager and consultant. She worked closely beside her husband during most of his productions, and was often seen on set even when not involved in the film making process. The couple remained married until her death in 1968. Multiple folds. Light surface creases. Corners lightly worn and creased. Pin holes in top margin. Toned. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
