HESTON (1923-2008, born John Charles Carter in Evanston, Illinois) was an
Oscar-winning American actor and political activist. He made his film debut in
Dark City (1950) and got his big break when Cecil B. DeMille cast him as
circus manager Brad Braden in The Greatest Show on Earth two years later.
Heston found his niche when DeMille cast him as Moses in The Ten
Commandments in 1956, the first in a series of larger-than-life roles
that included such epics as Ben-Hur (1959), for which he won the Oscar
for Best Actor in a Leading Role, El Cid (1961), The Greatest Story
Ever Told (1965) and Planet of the Apes (1968). In 1977, the actor
was awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. Active in politics, Heston
served an unprecedented three terms as President of the National Rifle
Association. MONROE (1911-1973, born in Akron, Ohio) was a popular orchestra
leader known for his boyish good looks and engaging personality. He got his
big break at Meadowbrook in the spring of 1941. The singer and trumpet
player got mixed reviews from critics, but was a hit with the ladies. When
the Big Band era drew to a close, Monroe's band, which had focused on singing
rather than instrumentals, continued in popularity. Monroe was also a big
hit on radio, well known for both his singing and his Camel Cigarette
commercials, and he continued to sing, both on RCA Victor recordings and as
the company's spokesperson, on RCA's television commercials into the mid-1960s.
George Sanders was a radio/TV interview host who collected signatures from
guests on his show. Charlton Heston's reference to Ralph Edwards was
probably facetious. Edwards hosted the popular TV show The is Your Life.
NORMA and EMMA LAINE were a country music duo who recorded a few 45 rpm
records. Lightly toned. Paper loss on Heston's side of page. Paper has been
discolored from contact with adhesive on other pages and from adhesive under
Monroe's bio. Page has been torn from a pad or album on one side. Signatures
show through on verso.
