Document signed: "Chauncey M. DePew", 2 pages (front and verso), 8½x11. No place, 1922 November 28. Document titled "Consent to Merge and Power", issued by the Board of Directors of the Irving National Bank, seeking shareholder approval to a merger with the Columbia Trust Company. Signed and witnessed (by "E. Sundell" ) on p2. Federal revenue stamp at lower edge, with cancellation mark of Irving National Bank. Pencil notation in lower right of p2 seems to mean that DePew owned 355 shares. Chauncey Mitchell Depew (1834-1928) was an attorney for the Vanderbilt railroad interests and President (1885-1899) and Chairman of the Board (1899-1928) of the New York Central Railroad. From 1899-1911, he served as U.S. Senator from New York. The merger authorized by this document went forward successfully. Further mergers and name changes resulted in the Irving Trust Company (1929-1989), which was merged into the Bank of New York in the latter year after a protracted hostile takeover battle. Horizontal fold creases. Lightly toned and creased at edges. Pencil notes (unknown hand) at lower margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
