Third Person Autograph Letter signed in body of the letter: "Mr. Chauncey M Depew", 1 page, 5¼x8½. Undated letter on Grand Central Depot letterhead. In full: "Mr. Chauncey M. Depew regrets that absence from the City prevents his accepting the kind invitation of the Republican District Committee of the Twenty Ninth Assembly District for Friday eve January 24th." Chauncey Mitchell Depew (1834-1928) was an attorney for the Vanderbilt railroad interests and President (1885-1899) and Chairman of the Board (1899-1928) of the New York Central Railroad. From 1899-1911, he served as U.S. Senator from New York. Left edge chipped and missing top corner. Normal mailing folds. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
