CHEECH AND CHONG: RICHARD "CHEECH" MARIN and TOMMY CHONG
Signatures in silver ink on Side 1 of their Grammy-winning LP record,
Los Cochines
Record signed: "Chong", "Cheech". Signed in silver ink on Side
1 of their long-playing record Los Cochines. RICHARD "CHEECH" MARIN
(born in Los Angeles, California in 1946) and TOMMY CHONG (born in
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1938) comprised one of the most popular comedy
acts of the early to mid-1970s. Their subversive, drug-oriented and often
scatological routines were particularly popular among young people and hippies.
In 1978, Cheech and Chong made their feature-film debut in Up in
Smoke, a comedy centered on their inane banter, the quest for good
marijuana and careers as rock musicians. Their low-brow but funny antics were a
hit and the film became that year's highest-grossing movie, and
subsequently launched a short-lived series of similar films. "Los Cochines"
[Spanish for "dirty pigs"], the third of Cheech and Chong's ten albums, was
released in 1973. It earned a Grammy as Best Comedy Album, and reached
#2 on the Billboard Album Chart. Fine condition.
