TOMMY CHONG
Tommy Chong signs a First Day Cover honoring American Indian
art.
First Day Cover signed: "Tommy Chong", 6½x3½. FDC honoring
American Indian art, 15-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Spokane, Washington,
September 25, 1980, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Together, comedians Richard
"Cheech" Marin and Tommy Chong comprised one of the most popular comedy acts of
the early to mid-1970s. Their subversive, drug-oriented, and often
scatological routines were particularly popular among young people and hippies.
In 1978, Cheech and Chong made their feature-film debut in Up in Smoke, a
comedy centered around their inane banter, the quest for good marijuana and
careers as rock musicians. Their low-brow but funny antics were a hit and the
film became that year's highest-grossing movie, and subsequently launched a
short-lived series of similar films. TOMMY CHONG, a Canadian, is the father
of actress Rae Dawn Chong. Fine condition.
