CHEN CHI. First Day Cover signed: "Chen Chi", 6½x3¾. FDC honoring Charles Marion Russell, 5-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Great Falls, Mont., March 19, 1964, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Master watercolorist Chen Chi, who was born in Wu-sih, Kiangsu, China, studied fine art in his native country and was an instructor of watercolor at St. John's University in Shanghai (1942-1946) before coming to the U.S. in 1947. Chi, who is most associated with New York City, is known for his watercolors portraying performances at the Metropolitan Opera House and other New York sites, including numerous works depicting Central Park at various times of the year. Slightly rippled. Lightly soiled on verso. Fine condition.
