SONNY & CHER, with SHARON KANE and DENIS PREGNOLATO
Nearly ten years after their divorce, both sign a Promissory Note making an unsecured loan of over $76,000 to a novice movie producer
Document signed: "Cher", "Sonny Bono", 1 page, 8½x11. Los Angeles, California, 1983 May 1. Also signed by the borrower "Denis Pregnolato" on May 25 of the same year, and witness "Sharon Kane". Sonny & Cher loaned Pregnolato $76,014.16 at 10% per annum interest, payable in monthly installments of $633.45, from May 1, 1983 until December 31, 1983, at which time the entire principal amount of $76,104.16 shall be due. Should action be instituted on this note, Pregnolato promises to pay whatever the Court may set as attorney's fees.  Salvatore "Sonny" Bono (1935-1998) and Cher (born Cherilyn Sarkisian in 1946) emerged as a popular pop/rock duo with big hits such as "I Got You Babe" (1965) and "The Beat Goes On" (1967). Inspired by the act they had developed in Las Vegas nightclubs, the couple launched a popular television show (1971-1974). Despite a divorce in 1974, the couple reunited on television (1976-1977), but thereafter pursued separate careers. Cher had a successful solo singing career, starting with the hit "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" (1971), and her Grammy Award-winning Believe (1999). Also a popular concert attraction, Cher has enjoyed great success in films, winning a Best Actress Academy Award for Moonstruck (1987) and being nominated for the Best Actress Oscar for Silkwood (1983). Cher was also named Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival for Mask (1985). Sonny entered politics, first winning election as Mayor of Palm Springs, California (1988), then serving as a Republican in the U.S. Congress from 1995 until his death in a skiing accident in 1998. Sonny Bono switched to blue ink while signing. Denis Pregnolato was associate producer and music supervisor of the 1984 film, Where the Boys Are '84Sharon Kane (b. 1956) is an American pornography actress who starred in dozens of productions during the course of her career. This piece merits further research. Fold creases, not near signature. Staple and holes at upper left corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
