Photograph inscribed and signed: "To/Howard Merrill/just for fun/Chester/Conklin". Sepia, 6x8¾. Beginning his career in 1913 as a Keystone Kop for Mack Sennett, Conklin, with his trademark walrus moustache, teamed up with Charlie Chaplin, Mack Swain and W.C. Fields in their early comedies. He gave a memorable performance in Modern Times as Chaplin's mechanic boss. ½-inch tear at bottom margin, touching the "i" (all intact). ¾-inch tear at lower right background has been repaired with tape on verso (no show through, all intact). Mounting remnants on verso (no show through). Overall, fine condition.
