CHET HUNTLEY The Emmy-winning news announcer pens a short letter to a friend Autograph Letter signed: "Chet", 5½x3¼ NBC News postcard. New York City, no date (but postmarked on verso 1960 August 9. Addressed in signer's hand on verso to "Lonnie R. Manning/2200 19th St. N.W./Washington 9, D.C.". In full: "Many thanks for your nice letter. I guess I had better have Tippy start walking back and forth on the bed." Tippy was Huntley's wife Tipton. Chester "Chet" Huntley (1911-1974) teamed up on television with David Brinkley to host The Huntley-Brinkley Report (1956-1970). The show began during the presidential nominating conventions of 1956. It won eight Emmy Awards and made the pair just as recognizable as stars such as John Wayne and The Beatles.  Cutting between Huntley in New York and Brinkley in Washington, the news program set new standards in television journalism. It was initially just 15 minutes long, but it later expanded to 30 minutes. Huntley retired to his native Montana in 1970. After he retired from broadcasting, he built the Big Sky Resort in his home state of Montana. Red postage meter stamp and other stamps show through slightly (not at signature). Faint nail head-sized spot in lower right corner, not touching signature. Mounting remnants on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
