Fine condition. (2) CHIC YOUNG. Cartoon inscribed and signed: "To Ted/With kindest regards/from Blondie, Dagwood,/Baby Dumpling and/Chic Young", 4¾x3½ card. Fine condition. Murat Bernard "Chic" Young (1901-1973) began the syndicated comic strip Blondie in 1930. Blondie, a curly-headed, cute blonde flapper, was courted by Dagwood Bumstead, a clumsy, lumbering, millionaire playboy. With the wedding of Blondie and Dagwood on February 17, 1933. Dagwood's parents disinherited him, and he became the genus of the common man - henpecked and overworked. In weeded bliss, Dagwood became known for his love of towering sandwiches and for his dilemmas with his boss, Mr. Dithers. The copy that accompanied the cartoon drawings placed the Bumsteads in exaggerated real-life situations. Through the years, the two became the parents of Alexander "Baby Dumpling" (1934) and Cookie (1941): readership for the Blondie strip was so great that Young received 400,000 suggested baby names fro the new addition to the Bumstead family. He also added Daisy, the family dog. After Chic Young's death in 1973, the Blondie cartoon was done by his son Dean Young and his associate. It has been syndicated in more than 1,500 newspapers. Two items. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 18½x19.
