CLETO TAFOYA: SANTA CLARA PUEBLO CHIEF. Photograph signed: "Cleto Tafoya/Santa Clara Pueblo/N Mexico/Aug 17 - 1927" in pencil on verso. Sepia, 3¼x4¼. The Pueblo of Santa Clara was established around 1550, when a drought forced the inhabitants' ancestors to move to the Rio Grande Valley. Located about a mile and a half from Española, New Mexico, the Pueblo is known for its highly polished black pottery. Creased at lower left blank corner. Fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 8½x12¾. Display easel included.
