(1872-1946) had decreased corruption in the Justice Department while serving
as United States Attorney General (1924-1925). As an Associate Justice of the
Supreme Court (1925-1941), he served under both William H. Taft and Charles
Evans Hughes. Although a Republican appointee, Stone had often supported
Franklin Roosevelt's "New Deal" legislation during Roosevelt's first term, when
many such measures were being declared unconstitutional by the Court's majority.
FDR nominated him for Chief Justice in 1941, and he filled that role until
his death. Horizontal fold. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine
condition.
