Large Photo Mount inscribed and signed: "To Duane R. Dills Esq/With
Cordial Regards/Harlan F. Stone". Sepia, 11½x13¾
overall, image 7x9¼ (two surfaces). Stone has signed on the mat to which the
photograph has been affixed. Appointed by President Coolidge, Stone served as
Associate Justice of the Supreme Court from 1925 to 1941. On July 3, 1941,
President Franklin D. Roosevelt named Stone as Chief Justice. He served from
1941 to his death in 1946. Creased, worn and torn blank borders (mat) at top,
left and right can be matted out. Lower border with writing and signature are in
fine condition. Tip of lower left corner of photo
nicked.
