him
Supreme Court Card signed: "Harlan F Stone", 4¼x3¼ Affixed to

Harlan Fiske Stone (1872-1946) had decreased corruption in the
Justice Department while serving as United States Attorney General (1924-1925).
As an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court (1925-1941), he served under
both William H. Taft and Charles Evans Hughes. Although a Republican
appointee, Stone had often supported Franklin Roosevelt's "New Deal" legislation
during Roosevelt's first term, when many such measures were being declared
unconstitutional by the Court's majority. FDR nominated him for Chief Justice
in 1941, and he filled that role until his death. From the private
collection of Ralph Errington Ward (1926-2009). Ward, a fighter pilot
and squadron commander in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II, went on
to become President and CEO of Cheseborough-Ponds, Inc., transforming the
cosmetics firm into a major home product conglomerate. Edges lightly toned. Fine
condition.
