Color postcard photo in traditional garb, with pony, signed in pencil on verso
Postcard Photograph signed in pencil: "Chief of Osages/Dancer/Tom Halfmoon" on verso. Chief Tom Halfmoon was an Osage Indian, noted as a skilled performer of the traditional Straight Dance. In 1924, he successfully defended himself in an Oklahoma court (Halfmoon v. State of Oklahoma), winning on appeal a reversal of a conviction for violation of prohibition laws, when he was able to demonstrate that the alleged homemade liquor found at his residence was actually slop for his hogs. Color, 3½x5½. Printed caption in upper margin. Soiled margins on front and lower right on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
