In full: "I can't tell you how greatly I appreciated your good letter of December 11, 1956./ With warmest regards,/ Most sincerely yours". Christian A. Herter (1895-1966) was Herbert Hoover's personal assistant from 1921-1924, later serving in the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1931-1943), as a U.S. congressman (1943-1953), and as the governor of Massachusetts from 1953-1957. Herter was also Eisenhower's Secretary of State from 1959-1961. Moreover, he served Presidents Kennedy and Johnson as an international trade negotiator. Two horizontal mailing folds. Sparse staining toward bottom edge. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
