date. Written inside a Christmas card to actress comedienne Phyllis Diller.
In full: "Loved your series in the L.A. Times. I want a book. If I
send one will you autograph it? I had a mild flood here at m y home - and you
photo in my rogues gallery became stained. Could you send me another
one? You are a dear. Fondly". Underlining in red ink. Fine condition.
Accompanied by autograph envelope unsigned, 7¾x5¼. Mailed envelope,
c-stamp affixed, postmarked Santa Monica, California, date illegible. Printed
return address sticker of C Jorgensen, Laguna Niguel, California. Addressed by
Jorgensen to Diller Pencil note (unknown hand) below address label: "Christine".
Slightly soiled. Overall, fine condition. An ex-GI who had been born George
Jorgensen, Jr. in 1926, Christine Jorgensen was the most famous transsexual
of the 20th century. After undergoing three sex change operations in
1952-1953, the controversial Jorgensen, who considered herself as primarily a
photographer, toured as a stage actress and singer until her death
from lung cancer in 1989. Two items.
