friend," Charles Timothy Hagel (b. 1946) was elected by Nebraska to the
U.S. Senate as a Republican in 1996 and re-elected in 2002. Hagel has taken
a special interest in foreign policy, serving on the Senate's Foreign
Relations Committee and the Select Committee on Intelligence while
chairing the Banking committee's Subcommittee on International Trade and

A prolific author, Moynihan (1927-2003) represented New York in the U.S.
Senate (1977-2001). Previously, he held important executive posts under four

condition.
