Trading/sports card signed: "Chuck Noll", in silver felt tip, 2½x3½ encased in PSA/DNA capsule (3¼x5¼). Charles Henry "Chuck" Noll (1932-2014) was an NFL guard, linebacker, and head coach. After completing his football scholarship at the University of Dayton, Noll was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 1953, for whom he played until retirement in 1959. The San Diego Chargers and NFL Baltimore Cults recruited the athlete as an assistant coach before he headed to the Pittsburgh Steelers as a head coach in 1969, where he stayed until 1991, with an overall record of 209-156-1. Throughout his long coaching career, Noll accumulated four Super Bowl wins, four AFC Championship wins, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993.Aside from his impressive legacy for wins and record setting, the coach was known for his role in advancing African-American athletes on his team. Under Noll, Joe Gilliam became the NFL's first African-American starting quarterback. Additionally, his former assistant coach Tony Dungy, became the first African-American coach to win a Super Bowl. Unfortunately, in his later years, Chuck Noll suffered from Alzheimer's disease and passed away in June of 2014. Corners and edges slightly worn. Slightly toned. Fine condition.
