CHUCK WEPNER - AUTOGRAPHED SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH - HFSID 320398
Sale Price $108.00
For a brave second, the former heavy weight boxer has the legendary Muhammad Ali on the ropes!
Photograph Signed: "Chuck Wepner," in silver felt tip pen. Color, 10x8. With the odds stacked against him, Chuck Wepner (b.1939) entered the ring with the legendary Muhammad Ali on March 24, 1975 for the Heavy Weight Championship bout. While the eventual outcome was already suspected (Ali served Wepner a TKO in the 15th round), Wepner got a rare chance and knocked down Ali in the 8th round. Ali went back in the ring and whipped Wepner fiercely, cutting gashes into his face and eyes. Wepner took a beating; however, he still received his guaranteed $100,000 after the fight. It was this fight that inspired Sylvester Stallone to write the script for Rocky. Later in life, Wepner got involved in a scheme to sell counterfeit Muhammad Ali memorabilia, a crime for which he and his partner, John Olson, were arrested by the FBI and received probation in 2002. The scam was featured in the book, Operation Bullpen (Kevin Nelson). Fine condition.
