CINCINNATI REDS: THE BIG RED MACHINE
Color publicity photograph of Cincinnati's “Big Red Machine” on the ball field holding their bats. Tony Pérez, Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, and Pete Rose
Photograph Signed: "Tony Pérez", "Johnny Bench", "Joe Morgan" and "Pete Rose". Color, 8x10. TONY PÉREZ (b. 1942), a native of Cuba, played first and third base for the Reds from 1961-1976 and 1914-1986. He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000. JOHNNY BENCH (b. 1947), who earned two MVP awards and 10 consecutive Gold Gloves, was the Reds' catcher from 1967-1983. He was enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989. Some consider him to be the best catcher in the history of baseball. Feared base stealer JOE MORGAN (b. 1943), the holder of two MVP awards and three Gold Gloves, played second base for the Reds from 1972-1979. He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990. PETE ROSE (b. 1941), who won NL Rookie of the Year honors when he started with the Reds in 1963, played outfield from 1963-1978 and 1984-1986. He was the NL MVP in 1973 and World Series MVP in 1975. Only the cloud generated by his baseball betting has so far kept Rose from the Hall of Fame, though many fans passionately favor his enshrinement. These four power hitters of Cincinnati's "Big Red Machine" played together from 1972 through 1976. During these five years, Perez, Bench, Morgan and Rose were instrumental in bringing the Reds to the World Series three times: 1972, 1975 and 1976 (wins in 1975-1976), with an average of 100 regular season wins. The Big Red Machine makes every short list of the greatest teams of all time. Stamped on verso (no show-through). Otherwise, fine condition.
