CIVIL WAR: CONFEDERATE. ALS: "Francis M. Eccles", 1p, 5¾x9¾. Camp Hill, Danville, 1861 July 9. To
his sister, Miss Mattie C. Eccles, Davidson County, North Carolina. Original
spelling. In part: "The arms that we got is an
improvement on the old United States Musket. I would much rather of had the
Minnie Rifle if it could have been today and the orders are for us to leave here
on friday next but we will not get of till next week about monday or tuesday...The
Govenor had accepted this Regiment for twelve months...." Lightly
creased and stained. Folds, not at signature. Irregular, chipped left edge.
Overall, fine condition. With original postmarked envelope, stamp
removed, torn open at left edge. Lightly foxed. Pencil date (unknown hand) at
left margin. Eccles served with the 21st Regiment N.C. Troops. Two items.
