CLARE BOOTHE LUCE.
TLS: "Clare Boothe Luce" as Member of Congress, 4th District,
Connecticut, 1p, 8x10½. Washington, D.C., 1946 July 17. To Captain
L.W. McKeehan, Washington, D.C. In full: "You may recall our
correspondence late last Fall on the subject of the May-Johnson Bill for
control of atomic energy. Since that time the McMahon Bill has come to the Floor
and you may be interested in reading my speech during the discussion of this
Bill, a mimeograph copy of which is enclosed [not included]. I am very deeply
appreciative of your courtesy in replying so fully and clearly to my original
questions about this subject which helped me to gain an informed layman's
opinion on the legislative treatment to be given this scientific discovery upon
which the future security and welfare of the human race may depend." Married
at one time to "Time" magazine's Henry R. Luce, Clare Boothe Luce was a
successful playwright (The Women, Kiss the Boys Goodbye,
Margin for Error), managing editor of "Vanity Fair"
(1929-1934), served in Congress as a Republican from 1943-1947 and she was
U.S. Ambassador to Italy, 1953-1957. Docket at lower right. Three file holes
in blank areas and two at top blank area. Top loops of "C" and "B" touch
horizontal fold, else fine condition.
