CLARENCE BIRDSEYE. Partly Printed Bond signed: "Clarence Birdseye" as President and "H.D. Wilson" as Assistant Secretary of the Birdseye Electric Company, 1p, 13½x10. Delaware, 1935 June 1. Certificate No. M78. Five-Year Convertible Sinking Fund Note for $1000, payable at 6 per cent, due June 1, 1940. Two interest coupons, 4x2½, attached at upper left. Clarence Birdseye (1886-1956), who developed methods of quick-freezing foods to preserve freshness, formed General Seafoods Co. in 1924. In 1929, "The Father of Frozen Food" sold the firm to Postum Co., which renamed it General Foods. Birdseye then served as President of Birds Eye Frosted Foods and Birdseye Electric Company (founded in 1934, for which this certificate was issued to raise capital). He eventually held about 300 patents for items ranging from a recoilless harpoon gun to an infrared heat lamp. Lightly creased with folds, light vertical fold at the "C" in Clarence. Tape remnant at upper left margin, where coupons are affixed to certificate. Overall, fine condition.
