CLARENCE "FROGMAN" HENRY
The "croaking" R&B singer poses with his trademark frog in this 6x4 photograph signed
in black ink
Inscribed Photograph signed: "To Chris/ Frogman/ Clarence Henry" in black ink, b/w, 6x4.
Rhythm and blues singer Clarence Henry got his nickname "Frogman" from his
trademark "croaking" singing style on his 1956 hit single, "Ain't Got No Home". Frogman,
who played piano and trombone for Bobby Mitchell and the Toppers (1952-1955) before
joining Eddie Smith's band, had subsequent hits with "It Won't Be Long", "I'm In Love",
and "I Found a Home". Although he opened for 18 Beatles concerts across the U.S. and
Canada in 1964, Frogman spent most of his career on New Orleans' Bourbon Street, and
he frequently performed at the annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Sticker affixed
to verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
