Photograph by McLaughlin & Company, Photographers, Phoenix, Arizona (stamped on verso). After serving as a missionary doctor in China, Clarence G. Salsbury began his 20-year work with the Navajo Indians in 1927. The "Doctor to the Navajos", who had the Presbyterian Board of Missions build a two-story hospital for him, had treated over 25,000 native Americans by 1947. Salsbury also served as the first President of the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association (AzHHA), and the organization named a scholarship in his honor. Lightly creased at blank margins and corners. Light impressions at upper background, one nicks one word of writing. Fine condition.
