CLARENCE K. STREIT
The American journalist signed this card that features a quote from his book Union Now
Inscribed Typescript Signed: "Clarence K. Streit/ For Dr. Edward S. Olsen. Aug. 23 - 1952" in green ink. 5½x3½. Dated August 23, 1952. The quote reads, in full: "The idea of Union Now is but the idea of the American Revolution, alive again and marching on. That Revolution is identified in the mind of humanity with no guillotine, no terror, no famine, no dictators, no attacks on religion, no purges, no secret police, nothing cruel, degrading. There was never a Revolution like it, identified only with more freedom, more equality, more of human dignity - identified, too, with food and medicine for the famished and the sick, for the victims of calamity everywhere on earth. Not simply for one generation, but for generation after generation, increasingly for 150 years of actual performance. It is no new experiment, no Utopia, this Union Now". Clarence K. Streit (1896-1986) was an American journalist known for his 1939 book titled Union Now, which advocated for a union of the fifteen major democracies of the world at that time. He was a proponent of government cooperation and unification and founded Federal Union, Inc. to work to achieve this vision. Toned. Mounting remnants on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
