Signature: "Claude R. Wickard". 3x5 card with printed caption
"Autograph Card Secretary of Agriculture". Claude R. Wickard (1893-1967) served as
Secretary of Agriculture under Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry
S Truman (1940-1945). A graduate of Purdue University in agriculture, he was
named "Master Farmer of Indiana" in 1927, elected to Indiana Senate in 1932 and during WWI
he headed the War Foods Administration - promoting increased production, his
slogan was "Food Will Win the War and Write the
Peace". Wickard became chief of the Rural
Electrification Administration in 1945, a position he held until 1953. Lightly
soiled. Ink notes (unknown hand) on face of card. Otherwise, fine
condition.
