Autograph letter to his daughter on an artistic post card, signed "Fa Fa"
Autograph Letter signed: "Love Fa Fa", 5¾x4 color picture postcard. Lowell, Massachusetts, 1954 August 15. Addressed in his hand to "Miss Jennifer Rains/C/o American Express/Co/Paris/France". From the estate of Claude Rains.Rains (1889-1967), who played the title role in The Invisible Man (1933), was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor in 1939 (as the "bought" Senator Paine in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington), 1943 (Inspector Louis Renault in Casablanca), 1944 (title role in Mr. Skeffington) and 1946 (Ingrid Bergman's Nazi husband in Notorious). This letter was written to his daughter Jennifer, who had grown up with Rains and her mother, Frances Propper (Rain's third of 6 wives) on a farm near West Chester. When she became an actor like her father, Jenni changed her name to Jessica to avoid confusion with another actress. Rains signed his letters to his daughter in a variety of ways, including "Fa Fa" and "Pie Face". Lightly soiled and worn at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
