CLAUDE TERRASSE The French composer signs this handwritten letter apologizing for not returning the recipient's manuscripts and suggesting that they meet in person Autograph letter signed: “Claude Terrasse” in black ink. 8¼x10½. November 21, 1913. Written in French, roughly translated: “Dear Sir, I'm sorry for not having returned your manuscript. I should like to deliver them personally, as it would bring me pleasure to see you. Except for Sunday, I will be at the Apollo from 5 to 6 o'clock every day. If for some extraordinary reason I am not there, M. Thomassin, the theater administrator will give you the envelope. You can always announce your visit with a telephone call at 257.68. With utmost sympathy, yours”. Claude Terrasse (1867-1923), was a French composer of operettas. He became well-known after writing the music for the play “Ubu Roi” by Alfred Jarry in 1896. His brother-in-law was the painter Pierre Bonnard. He introduced Terrasse to the artistic world of Paris and the avant-garde literature and art of the time. Some of his other works include; “La petite femme de Loth”, “Monsieur de la Palisse”, “Le mariage de Télémaque”, and “Vive la France! - Trilogie à grand spectacle.” Lightly toned. Creased throughout. Corners rounded. Horizontal and vertical folds. Folds slightly worn. Holes from staple in upper left corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
