[CLAYRE TENNANT ANSTRUTHER]. Partly Printed DS: "G.C." in unknown hand, 5x8. London, 1903 February 7. On letterhead of "Fortnightly Review" from Chapman & Hall, Ltd., Proprietors to "Hon. Mrs. Anstruther". Begins: "Sir" (imprinted). In full: "Enclosed we beg to send you Cheque for £5.5.0 for your literary contribution to this Review for the month of February. Kindly sign and return to us the accompanying Form of Receipt. Yours faithfully". Amount and month written in unknown hand. Ink notes (unknown hand) at upper margin and to left and right of last paragraph. Clayre Tennent Anstruther was married to Lieutenant Colonel William Anstruther-Gray (1859-1938), a Scottish soldier and politician who took the adopted name of Gray upon succeeding to the Carntyne estate in 1904, the year after this document was signed. In addition to "Fortnightly Review", we have found references to works submitted by Mrs. Anstruther to publications by J.A. Arrowsmith. Lightly creased with folds, ½-inch tear at right margin at upper horizontal fold nicks the handwritten "3" of date. Lightly shaded, slightly soiled. Overall, fine condition.
