Clayton Moore signs a typed letter remembering his friend, Jay Silverheels
Typed Letter signed: "Clayton Moore/The Lone Ranger", 1 page, 6¾x8½. No place, no date. On personal leterhead to "Dear Margie", In full: "Thank you for writing. I miss my good friend Jay Silverheels very much. He was a genuine and gentle man. He remained a true friend from the day we met. He was proud of his nationality. He was a full-blooded Mohawk. It was such a shock to see him prior to his death. It was a tragic situation but I know he is alright now. Please remember to live the 'The Lone Ranger' creed. Thanks again for writing and my best wishes to you. Sincerely." Clayton MOORE (1914-1999) entered show business as a young circus acrobat. He worked his way up the ladder in Hollywood Westerns from extra to stunt man to supporting actor, reaching stardom on television as The Lone Ranger from 1949-1952 and 1954-1957. Thereafter he made a good living from commercials and public appearances as The Lone Ranger. Jay SILVERHEELS (1918-1980) was often frustrated by stereotyped roles assigned him as "Tonto", the Lone Ranger's "faithful Indian companion," but that is the role for which he is best, and fondly, remembered. Fine condition.
