Blazing Saddles (1974), Director Mel Brooks' spoof of the movie Western, included in its all-star cast Gene Wilder as "the Waco kid" and Cleavon Little as Sheriff Bart. The movie's intent is clearly expressed in the lobby card subtitle: "Never give a saga an even break!"Gene Wilder, now a famous name in comedy films, achieved early prominence in a trio of Brooks films made between 1968 and 1974: The Producers (which earned him an Oscar nomination), Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. Mary Jo Wilder became the actor's second wife in 1967. Better known was his third marriage, to the late Gilda Radner. Cleavon Little (1939-1992) was a classically trained stage actor who had already scored a Tony (for Purlie). Blazing Saddles gave him a chance to show his comic skills to filmgoers. He died young of colon cancer. Four items.
