In full: "How very kind of you to write about the broken wrist and to send me messages from your Husband. I am afraid he is having a sad, miserable time and I do hope he will soon be better. I will certainly give your news about him to my Husband. Yours very sincerely." Lightly creased, vertical fold touches the "m" in Clementine. Paper clip impression at upper left margin. Overall, fine condition. Accompanied by typed envelope addressed to Mrs. Nightingall in Epsom, Surrey, postmarked South Kensington, June 17, 1955. Overall, fine condition. Signed two months after her husband resigned the office of Prime Minister and retired from public life. Clementine Churchill (1885-1977) married future British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in 1908 and remained his companion and confidante until his death in 1965. A recent collection of their letters (1999), assembled by daughter Mary Soames, reveals that "Clemmie" took an early and active interest her husband's politics. Their five children also included writer Randolph Churchill (1911-1968) and actress Sarah Churchill (1918-1982). Two items.
