Price: $120.00
CLIFFORD BAX. ALS: "Clifford Bax.", 1p, 8x10¼. London,
1922 November 4. On imprinted sheet to "Dear Mr Thrush". In
full: "That's a pity; for I much liked your poem 'The Murderer'.
The two new ones I do not like nearly so well, and I shall hope, therefore, that
you will send me some more to look through. I hope we are going to make a
success of this magazine, but Mr Spare seems to upset most people much more than
I had expected. Yours sincerely". Mr. Spare was AUSTIN OSMAN SPARE
(1886-1956), an English artist, magician and sometimes author, who co-edited
"Golden Hind", a literary and artistic magazine, with Bax from 1922-1924.
Clifford Bax (1886-1962), a versatile English journalist, playwright, poet,
critic, editor, lyricist, hymn writer and translator, was the brother of
composer Arnold Bax. He wrote his first play, The Poetasters of
Ispahan, in 1912 and went on to become well known as a dramatist. In
addition to co-editing "Golden Hind", Bax also edited the theosophical
magazine, "Orpheus", from 1908-1914. Lightly creased with folds, vertical
fold at the "if" of Clifford, horizontal fold at the upper loops of the "C" and
"B". Slightly soiled with minor foxing. Overall, fine
condition.
