CLIFFORD ROSE
The English screen and stage actor pens a short letter to John Willis, chief editor of Theatre World, forwarding biographical information for an upcoming publication
Autograph letter signed: "Clifford Rose," in blue ink, 1 page, 7¼x10½. New York City, January 2nd, no year. To "Dear Mr. [John] Willis," in full: "Thank you for your letter. I enclose the Biography file duly completed, and I will do my best to send you a photograph as your request[item not included]. Unfortunately the only photographs I have with me in the glossies are in the possession of David Memick's publicity department--but I will try to get hold of one for you and send it on to you. Yours sincerely." Born in Hamnish, Hereforshire England actor Clifford Rose (1929-2021) has appeared in over 80 titles since the 1950's. Rosebegan his acting career in a small TV role on the series Hilda Lessways (1959). Throughout the 1960's, Rose appeared in several TV movies and mini-series including As You Like It (1963) and Les Miserables (1967). By the mid 1970's, Rose had landed reoccurring roles on How Green Was my Valley (1976) BBC Play of the Month (1971-1976), The Pallisers (1974) and Secret Army (1977-1979).  Clifford, who was well-known on television by the 1980's, also starred on Buccaneer (1980), Doctor Who (1981), Kessler (1981) and Crown Court (1974-1984). Recently, Rose performed in the blockbuster movie Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) and the Oscar-winning film The Iron Lady (2011). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Normal mailing folds. Toned around edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
