Clifton Daniel (1912-2000) was managing editor of the New York
Times from 1964 to 1969. Before assuming the top editorial job at the paper,

intensified the newspaper's treatment of society news, arts coverage and
obituaries. Daniel married Margaret Truman, the only daughter of President
Harry S Truman, on April 21, 1956. The couple, who was married for almost 43
years at the time of his death on at the age of 87, had four sons. One of them,
Clifton Truman Daniel (born in 1957) serves on the Board of Directors of the
Harry S Truman Library Institute. Toned. Lightly frayed at left edge. Lightly
creased. Ink note (unidentified signer) on verso (no show through). Otherwise,
fine condition.
