CLIFTON JAMES
Photograph of the Southern redneck sheriff impersonator, shown wearing western attire
Photograph signed: "Clif James", inscribed to "Gary" in another hand. B/w, 8x10. In the
1970s, actor Clifton James (1921-2017) became the foremost film impersonator of
Southern redneck sheriffs, appearing in over 100 TV programs in parts that were small and
frequently unbilled. That changed when James was cast as Sheriff Pepper in the James Bond
film Live and Let Die (1973) and the reprise of the character in The Man With the Golden
Gun (1973). Since then, he has been prominent in such films as Silver Streak (1976), The
Bad News Bears Break Training (1977) and Superman II (1980). Fine condition.
