CLINT MALARCHUK
Canadian ice hockey player who survived an almost fatal neck injury
is pictured in this 4¾x8 magazine photograph.
Magazine photograph signed: "Clint Malarchuk" in black felt
tip, Color 4¾x8 affixed to a 5x8¼ card (2 surfaces). Clint Malarchuk was born
on May 1, 1961 in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. Malarchuk was a goalie in
the NHL for 12 seasons, playing with the Quebec Nordiques
(1981-1987), Washington Capitals (1987-1989), and the Buffalo Sabres
(1989-1992). During his career in the NHL, he had 141 wins, 130 losses, and
45 ties. However, the goalie's brief time in the NHL is overshadowed by an
almost fatal injury he received during a match against the St. Louis Blues, in
which Malarchuk's jugular vein was accidently sliced when two players crashed
into his goal. His life was saved by the team trainer, a former army medic
who was able to pinch off the bleeding until further medical help arrived. After
recovering from his injury, Malarchuk continued to play in the NHL, but his
performance declined over the years. He retired from the NHL in 1992, but
later went to play for the IHL for a short time. Currently, the retired player
serves as goalie coach for the Calgary Flames. Fine condition.
