CLINTON SCOLLARD
Extremely rare signature from the 1800's poet
Signature: "Clinton Scollard.", in black ink, 2x3¾. Clinton Scollard (1860-1932) was an American poet, most popular in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Friends with fellow poets Bliss Carman and Frank Dempster Sherman, Scollard was noted for being a more minor poet, but the works he did present were always well composed. He published several works of verse during his writing career, including Pictures in Song (1884), On Sunny Shores (1893), Poems (1914), and Ballads, Patriotic and Romantic (1916). He was married to literary scholar Jessie Belle Rittenhouse, and remained with her until his death in 1932. Lightly toned. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Fine condition.
