Inscribed photograph signed: "To Harold J. Peary/ with best wishes/ Clive Brook" Sepia, 7¾x9¾. Actor Clive Brook (1887-1974), a veteran of World War I, became a star of the English stage and screen, making his first film in 1920. (He made only one after 1950 - The List of Adrian Messenger,1963 - concentrating on theater work instead. One of his best film years was 1932, when he portrayed Sherlock Holmes and starred in Shanghai Express. Although the program is undated, it describes The Gioconda Smile.Brook appeared in the starring role of Henry Hutton in this play, which Huxley published in 1922. Corners slightly creased. Light fold in left margin. Glue marks on verso. Pencil notes on verso in unknown hand. Otherwise, fine condition.
