CLIVE DONNER
Director Donner signs still from his 1981 film Charlie Chan and the Curse of the Dragon Queen
Photograph signed: "Clive Donner". B/w, 10x8 overall, image 9¼x6¾ (one surface). Movie still from Charlie Chan and the Curse of the Dragon Queen, which Donner directed. ©1981, United Artists Corporation. Captioned at lower margin: "Peter Ustinov stars as the clever Charlie Chan while Director Clive Donner looks on in the comedy caper, 'Charlie Chan and the Curse of the Dragon Queen,' a United Artists release." This film, which starred Ustinov, also featured Australian-born actress Jocelyn Rickards, who was married to Donner from 1968 until her death in 2005. London-born director Clive Donner (born in 1926) made his directing debut with an episode of Hallmark Hall of Fame (1951), and he would go on to direct several made-for-TV movies, including Spectre (1977), The Thief of Baghdad (1978), Oliver Twist (1982), The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982), A Christmas Carol (1984), Arthur the King (1985), Babes in Toyland (1986) and Terror Stalks the Class Reunion (1992), a TV miniseries, Charlemagne (1993), and two TV series, Danger Man (1960-1961) and Sir Francis Drake (1961). Donner's feature film credits (beginning in 1957), include The Caretaker (1963), What's New, Pussycat (1965), Vampira (1974), The Nude Bomb (1980), Stealing Heaven (1988) and Arrivederci Roma (1990). Donner also edited a number of films, from On Approval (1944) to I Am a Camera (1955), and he produced Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush (1967) and wrote the adaptation for The Machine Stops (1966). Lightly creased at blank margins and corners, diagonal crease touches the line beneath Donner's signature. Minor surface creases and striations (not evident head on), crease at Donner's sweater, striations at Ustinov's facial image. Light black mark at upper right corner. Overall, fine condition.
